everyone’s watching End of Term Report

How well have the Scottish Executive done on their environmental commitments?

An analysis of the Lib/Lab coalition partnership agreement commitments on the environment

Committing to a series of actions in the aftermath of an election is one thing.  Actually doing them is another. The Partnership Agreement between Labour and the Liberal Democrats formed the basis of a coalition government in Scotland in 2003. It highlighted a number of actions that will be taken to safeguard and improve the environment while contributing towards achieving sustainable development for Scotland.

Throughout their four year term, everyone has kept an eye on these commitments and kept people informed by regularly updating the everyone’s watching grid. The grid is now complete, and together with a short summary of the government’s environmental achievements – and disappointments, it forms our final analysis of the second term of the Labour/Lib Dem coalition government. You can access all parts of the report below…

  • Foreword by Fred Edwards, Scottish Environment LINK President. Fred considers the report in the wider context of events during 2006.

  • Read the Executive Summary.

  • The everyone’s watching grid takes each of the environmental commitments in turn, and assesses how well each has progressed.

  • everyone’s watching awards: Based on the report, everyone has given awards for the best and worst policy achievements of this government.  Find out the winner of the ‘blooming thistle’ award!  What policy won the climate-wrecking ‘melting glacier’ award? )
