Thermal images reveal Parties' secrets

4th May 2005

WWF Scotland today released thermal images of the head-quarters of the 4 biggest Scottish political parties, revealing different standard of energy efficiency in the different parties.

Dr Richard Dixon, Head of Policy with WWF Scotland, said:

"Governments and politicians are always telling us we must do our bit to help solve environmental, social and economic problems. We thought it was time to find out if the political parties are doing their bit on climate change - the biggest environmental issue.

"The Labour Party's modern office is the only one which does really well. While the LibDems own office looks good their upstairs neighbours at Clifton Terrace let the side down so that the building as a whole looks like it needs some serious remedial work. Our survey shows that both the Conservatives and the SNP need to do some checking on the fabric of their offices.

"Any politician who wants to get some votes from those interested in the environment needs to walk the walk as well as talking the talk, and that goes as much for the energy efficiency of their office as for whether they hit the campaign trail in a helicopter or on a bicycle.

" We will no doubt be doing the same kind of work on other buildings occupied by relevant organisations in future."
