Comments from Scotttish Environment LINK President, Fred Edwards on the leaked Cabinet memo below:

“The Scottish Executive failing to deliver on the modest and limited third party rights of appeal which ordinary people are seeking, as demonstrated by overwhelming public support to the Executive consultation, would be a big mistake. It would seriously cause one to question the extent of the gap between the rhetoric voiced and the reality practiced by our coalition government.

“Equal rights must be integral to a more efficient and fair planning system. To reject the call for the modest adjustments to our planning system at a time when there is wide spread concern at the extent of political disengagement by the electorate would be astonishing.

“If the Executive were to take such a decision they would fail a ‘litmus test’ of environmental justice because it would be about retaining power for the powerful and denigrating the citizenship of ordinary people.”
