Climate Change Campaign G8 Summit Within the many events and opportunities during and in the run up to the summit, everyone specifically supported the Climate Alarm on the 7th of July. For the central Edinburgh gathering in Parliament Square, it was decided to hold a silent alarm for one minute out of respect for the tragedy that had befallen London that morning.
A group of about 80 folk gathered in Parliament Square, including Sarah Boyack, MSP for Central Edinburgh and the Convenor of the Scottish Parliament Environment and Rural Development Committee.
The everyone campaign would like to thank all who supported the alarm either in Edinburgh or at another location. We would also like to thank the local police who were supportive of our holding the event and very helpful on the day.

General Election First, many thanks to all those who took time out to write to their MP and candidate MPs during the campaign. Your time and effort do make a difference and ensure that communication between government representatives and community members is kept clear and open!
Check your candidate’s responses to everyone’s survey on climate change.
During the election, 6 hustings events were held throughout Scotland and well attended within their local communities. Huge thanks to those who put so much time and energy into the hustings in Auchterarder, Birnam, Aberdeen, Kirkcauldy and the two in Edinburgh. Also many thanks to the candidates for their time, energy and good humour!
After the May 2005 elections Fred Edwards, President of Scottish Environment LINK set the following challenge for the new Parliament:
“Scotland's new MPs must immediately get ready to face up to the threat posed to us all by climate change. Unfortunately, during the period of this election, the threat of climate change did not conveniently disappear. If anything, we actually saw the evidence for human-induced climate change increase.
"Whether a member of the governing party or not, it is imperative that all those elected take action to ensure the government deliver the necessary year-on-year cuts in climate emissions.
"During the election campaign we know that many of those MPs now elected heard directly from constituents about the urgent need to help cut climate change. We hope that those elected will remember those requests and respond accordingly. We will be here to help them if needed, but also to prod them if they some how forget."
See Labour’s commitments and manifesto.
And don’t forget, you can still let your MP know about your concerns! Write them today and ask what they are doing to tackle climate change. You can get your MP’s address at http://www.locata.co.uk/commons/
